Antsy for Autumn

Happy last day of August everyone! When I took Buddy outside this morning I realized that it was must cooler out than the normal brisk mornings we have had in the last couple of weeks. It was downright COLD! When I came inside I saw the thermostat said it was 54* degrees.  Um- Burr! Tis the season to keep a sweater by the door! Are you ready for Autumn? It is my favorite season by far. The temperatures are much more comfortable for me.

I can’t wait for warm fires and relaxing on the couchI can’t wait for new excuses to eat apples stuffed with cinnamon and brown sugar

I can’t wait for a reason to buy adorable scarves!

I can’t wait to bake pumpkin bread & apple pie

And finally, I cannot wait for Starbucks to finally start serving the Pumpkin Pie Latte again!

What are you excited for??

Workout Wrap-up

This past week I logged 14 miles running. It was by far the best week of running that I have had.

Here I have last weeks workouts. (We are following this training plan)

Monday: Rest

Tuesday: 5K Splits: Mile 1: 10:26,Mile 2: 10:21, Mile 3: 9:46 + Weights & 10 minutes spinning

Wednesday: My first tempo run! 30 minutes of running, 2.89 miles covered.

Thursday: My fastest 5K so far! Splits: Mile 1: 10:02, Mile 2: 10:03, Mile 3: 9:31 + Weights & 10 Minutes of spinning

Friday: Rest (2 hours golfing with a cart, 2nd annual drunk golfing expedition)

Saturday: Skipped Run- Family Party

Sunday: I really didn’t want to run on Sunday. I was feeling lethargic and wanted to just watch Mad Men (<–current obsession) Chris was going to go run without me and I decided to go and see how I felt. SO glad that I did- I ended up rocking it! 5 Miles- Splits: Mile 1: 10:48, Mile 2: 10:42, Mile 3: 10:30, Mile 4: 10:30, Mile 5: 10:09 (First time running 5 consecutive miles without a walking break!)

I am beginning to feel stronger and am proud of the fact that I can run longer distances even on days where I would rather be napping. I can run these distances and not be sore the next day. I can run and clear my mind and enjoy the remaining days of summer. I am looking forward to running in the fall. The brisk temperatures will be welcomed after this steamy summer!

How do you stay motivated?

Seven Links

Last week Jen tagged me to do a “Seven Links” post! After being away for a couple days, I think this is a fun way to ease back into regular blogging without bombarding you all with pictures of my wonderful vacation 8-) Enjoy!

Most Beautiful:

Trip to Washington D.C in April. Jen and I were there just in time to see the cherry blossoms! It was a wonderful trip with lots of great food and site seeing.

Most Popular:

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cupcakes

These tasty treats are my most popular post! They were amazing!

Most Controversial:

I honestly don’t think I have a controversial post…. maybe I should write one! :-P

Most Helpful:

For the love of food

This post reviews a few food related books that I read last summer. All very good reads!!

Surprise Success

Altamont Food & Wine Fest

This post brief post reviews my trip the the Altamont fair with Rebecca. It was a gorgeous fall day- apple cider and donuts were consumed 8-)

Not Enough Attention:

101 Goals in 1001 Days

I have been chipping away at these goals for over a year- I have made quite the dent! Check out my list, and then go make your own!

Most Proud:

Longest Race to date: The Firecracker 4 Miler

I signed up for this race on a whim and had a fantastic time. It was the first time that I really pushed myself (I couldn’t have done it without Heather) and ran a distance that I didn’t know I could handle. After running this race I came home and ran another mile, just because I could!

Now, its my turn to tag bloggers to do a seven links post!

Can’t wait to read your posts ladies!! :)

Summer Reading

Last summer I went through an incredible faze in what I was reading. I found that every book that I got out of the library was foodie related.. basically memoirs with recipes thrown in. These were amazing reads! They included lots of fantastic recipes and other information that has stuck with me. Now that my free time has grown, I just picked up two more yummy summer reads!

The books that I picked up are Confections of a Closet Master Baker — who also has a fantastic blog!

(Did I mention that she is Sandra Bullocks sister?)

My second book is Home Cooking: A writer in the kitchen

I can’t wait to review these! Until then- I recommend checking out:

A Homemade Life: Stories and Recipes from My Kitchen Table by Molly Wizenburg.

(she also has a blog!)

This book was one of my favorites- it was a very quick read. It related stories from Molly’s life to life experiences that she had. I made many of the recipes in this book, including these…and this.

But first… I need to finish reading these bad boys. I have read them all, repeatedly. But want to finish reading them all again before the movie comes out next week. That might make me crazy. I am SO close to finishing the fifth book (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix) and then have the last two. I have a feeling I won’t be doing much else until next Thursday at midnight!

What are you reading this summer??

Where did she go??

Since when is it July?! I haven’t blogged in what feels like forever :-(

It is so easy for me to just get side tracked with work and school and everything else and forget to take pictures of what I am making- or even if I do (I have taken plenty of pictures of some sweet eats in the last month) I forget to make a post about it. Well, good news folks! I can’t use the class excuse anymore! It is over! Just taking this one summer class felt like it was taking up as much time as my three over the last semester.

Well, anyway

My class ended on Thursday and I am now back to part-time at work! That mean I have NO more silly excuses. I have lots of plans for the blog over the summer and I hope that creating a routine will help me prioritize my blog to something that isn’t easily forgotten about.

Here are some things that have been happening over the past month:

  • I baked cakes / or cupcakes for all three of the people I work with on their  birthday (recipes to come!)
  • I was there when one of my best friends found her wedding dress! It is beautiful!
  • My car is 25 miles away from hitting 200,000 miles!
  • I registered for the firecracker 4 miler on a whim!
  • I made an amazing running playlist that includes a lot of embarrassing singers
  • I took Bud for a fantastic walk at the Saratoga Battlefield
  • Played lots of scrabble (while drinking wine) <–try this, it is very amusing
  • I read the first 4 (and half of the 5th) of the Harry Potter books. (I am  rereading them before the movie!)
  • This July I am going to have lots of opportunities to see other bloggers too, yay for meet-ups!
  • Chris made me dinner three times this week and it was amazing. He may being working on his own food blog… :)
