Game Day Chili & A GIVEAWAY!

SUPER BOWL!!

…..

I don’t even know who is playing in the super bowl. Don’t hate me. It’s not that I won’t be watching, because I will! But I have always loved the super bowl for the commercials and the food. Who is with me?

This year I will be spending Sunday with Chris and our families. Generally there is a lot of game day food (pizza, wings, other cheese filled dips, etc.) but this year I will be making one of my favorite waist friendly favorites while I watch the big game (or the commercials, at least). My friends at Redpack Tomatoes contacted me recently and wanted to know if I would be willing to share my favorite super bowl recipe, so friends…here it is!

Game Day Chili

Whatcha Need:
  • 1 Onion, chopped
  • 1 1/2 large green bell peppers, seeded and chopped
  • 6 cloves of garlic, or two heaping teaspoons of pre-chopped garlic
  • 2 Jalapenos
  • 1 lb. lean ground turkey
  • 1 28oz. can crushed Redpack Tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp. liquid smoke (flavoring sauce)
  • 3/4 cup beer (your preference)
  • Hot sauce (to taste)
  • Desired toppings (cheese, duh)

    Seasoning

  • 2 tablespoons Chili Powder
  • 1 tablespoon Paprika
  • 1 tablespoon ground Cumin
  • 2 tsp Oregano
  • 2 tsp Red Pepper Powder
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1 small handful of semi sweet chocolate chips

How to do it:

Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Chop onion, green pepper,  jalapeno, and garlic then add to saucepan. Cook and stir for about 5 minutes. After the vegetables have cooked down a bit (about 10 minutes) add your turkey meat and combine with vegetables (I have not had any problems cooking the meat this way, you can also cook it first in a separate skillet if you prefer).

Season with chili powder, paprika, cumin, oregano, red pepper powder, salt, black pepper, and the secret ingredient: chocolate. Stir in beer, Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, can of Redpack tomatoes. Partially cover and simmer for about an hour.

Stir every 10-20 minutes

Add hot sauce to taste and continue cooking for 5 – 10 minutes longer.

Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes before serving. Serve with desired toppings (cheese, sour cream, crackers).

This can be left bubbling on the stove on low for quite a while, just make sure you stir it every once and a while, or the bottom of the pan may burn!

OH. Were you looking for a giveaway? Well, when my friends at Redpack first sent me tomatoes to use in this recipe, I was totally shocked with how they arrived! Everything arrived in a giant Redpack can! How cute is that? Included in the can you will find two 28oz. cans of tomatoes, 1 can opener, 1 oven mitt, 1 spaghetti server and a fun magnet with a few recipe ideas.
