I am going to start by saying this is NOT a sponsored post. Just a roundup of all of the things that I use / purchase for Buddy on a normal basis! I will go ahead and state that Squashington is a spoiled dog. He doesn’t act like it..but I do not have children and enjoy spending money on dog toys because they are awesome (I found him a giant DINOSAUR toy last year! )
Buddy will play with just about anything, but he really really likes plain old tennis balls that you can find in the extra large bag at walmart. I have found that these last a long longer than the ones you can find at Petsmart and he doesn’t shred them as easily. When I buy other toys for Bud, usually I keep my eye out for Tuffys Toys. Sometimes I can find them at Petsmart, but usually I order them online for cheap. They are AWESOME. Buddy is a super chewer and these take him a while to get through. After he rips all of the fluff out he still plays with them.
KEEPING THE FURBALL CLEAN:
Buddy has sensitive skin, and the last thing I like to hear in the middle of the night is an itchy dog! I usually invest in a decent shampoo and conditioner. I have had really good luck finding a pair of them at Marshalls stores. The one that I currently use was great for summer- it had citronella oil in it so it kept bugs away! I also use a spray conditioner in-between baths (generally for after pool time) to keep him smelling good and looking fluffy.
I also found a FURminator on sale one day and picked it up. For Buds long hair this is great. He isn’t the biggest fan, but I can usually use it on him for a while before he gets pissed off. It really helps keep the shedding down!
I also use a normal cheapo brush for normal brushing. Buddy likes it! I usually use it on him after baths and keep the knots and matts away.
HARNESS + LEASH:
I recently bought a KONG harness for Bud when we go on walks. It is much more comfortable for him and has a great handle that I can use if he needs to stay close. I also have been using the same retractable leash since he was a pup! I have a non-retractable leash that I use when he needs to stay really close, and generally use it only when I take him to the farmers market. I found his dublin dog collar at a local dog store and feel in love with it! It is made of rubber so that if it gets wet it doesn’t smell. Perfect for my little water dog!
Buddy is a quirky dog. He is afraid of a lot of random things…(hanging plants, ceiling fans, area rugs, etc) I don’t know why he is cautious of these things, but I am assuming that something happened before he was adopted that prompted these feelings. One thing he really doesn’t enjoy is thunderstorms. I always did my best to keep him comfortable when a nasty storm happened, but I can’t always be home if they happen during the middle of the day. I researched thundershirts for a while before finally ordering one. Thundershirts are not just for thunderstorms, they can be used for all sorts of anxiety issues. Buddy doesn’t mind wearing his and I think he truly feels better when he wears it.
When I first adopted Buddy he was eating standard purina puppy chow. He liked it enough, but it was making him go to the bathroom about 5 times a day (I am talking about poop here). I knew right off that going that much was NOT normal. As soon as he was ready I started weaning him off of the puppy chow and onto Blue Buffalo dry food. Pretty much immediately the constant bathroom trips ceased and an average number (2-3 times a day) became the new normal. He has been on the same food ever since. I put a cup of dry food in his bowl every morning (usually he doesn’t eat it) and then either add another if he does, or add a little bit extra and some wet Blue Buffalo food to his dish & mix it up with a little water. He really likes it!
A camera! I take tons of pictures of Buddy. If you follow me on instagram I am SORRY! When I first got Buddy I didn’t have a good camera and am left with horribly pixilated shots of my furball. I am making up for lost time! I almost always take my pictures of Buddy with my iphone.
A hydro bowl! For those days when we go on really long walks or c-a-r rides and Buddy gets thirsty! This bowl folds up and is really light. Easily thrown in a backpack or purse.
