Good morning!! I took a barre-esque class last night and during the whole thing I kept thinking about what my challenge for next month should be. I am happy to say that I am on day 20 of the Whole30. HOLY CRAP. Day 20! Where did the time go? I suppose it feels like the fastest month and the slowest month at the same time. Anyhow, back to my workout distractions…
I kept catching myself thinking about how WEAK I felt during the class. It was the first group exercise class that I have taken in a very long time. Over a year at least. About this time last winter I had back spasms so bad that I ended up in the ER because I couldn’t stand or walk. It was terrifying. I am WAY too young to experience anything like that. After my back healed a bit, I did physical therapy for a few months and got back to a point where I was a functioning human again. I even trained for a half marathon this summer and fall and PR’d in October! It was right after the race that I let myself get comfortable and have felt my back start to do the not so subtle twinges and pinches that let me know it is not in the best shape.
So, let it be known to the entire universe, that FEBRUARY IS THE MONTH OF STRENGTH! I am planning on working on really focusing on strengthening my core and have a really solid base. Being JUST a runner will not give me the core workout that I need to alleviate some of the pain I feel on a daily basis. I will be incorporating all of the physical therapy techniques that I was taught while adding more group exercise to my running schedule. I am feeling really awesome about this decision to really focus on myself and essentially build a better version of my body. This is a really big step for me and I really proud of the progress that I have made over the past year.
Okay okay, what did I eat today?
WHOLE30 DAY 19 EATS –
At this point (8:30pm 1/19) I haven’t eaten dinner yet. It is a combination of being full from my big lunch and not feeling hungry post workout. I’ll have a snack or a little slice of quiche before bed. I have had a few clementines throughout today.
Things that I have been enjoying: That cobb salad was really good. However, eating out at a brewery on a restricted diet should be illegal. It is just not fair.
Things I miss: Today I missed the ability to order a cheeseburger and a beer while getting lunch with my dad.
How I have been feeling: I been feeling good! I’m sure I will be sore after the class I took! I am really pumped about finished off the month of January on a high note and having a strong February.
